Today in this episode of Movie Snippets, I am going to recommend you the movie Satya. Directed by Ram Gopal Varma starring J D Chakravarthi, Manoj Bajpayee, Urmila Matondkar, Paresh Rawal, Saurabh Shukla, and Shefali Shah.

Satya is probably the mother of all Indian Gangster movies revolving around the Mumbai Underworld back in the 90s.

Ram Gopal Varma deals with crime, gangsters and violence with the use of fresh characters.

Satya, played by JD Chakravarthi, is a hot-headed young man with a subdued outward appearance. The movie revolves around Satya and his joining the Bhiku Mhatre gang played by Manoj Bajpayee. How the gang operates and controls the city’s underground activities like extortion, blackmail and so on.

Manoj Bajpayee outshines everybody else in his role as Bhiku Mhatre. He exudes extreme confidence, it will be unfair to others if I say that the movie runs on Bajpayee’s character but it was that kind of performance.

The writing by Anurag Kashyap and Sourabh Shukla, who also played the role of Kallu Mama, is exceptional as they weave a well-rounded tale with characters that fill the screen and the audience’s attention and do not just come and go for the sake of it.

Overall a great experience watching the gangster genre in the Indian context and the vision and expertise of the so-called “used to be great” Ram Gopal Varma.

Please do watch the movie and let me know what you felt about it in the comments section.
