Today in this episode of Movie Snippets, I am going to recommend you the movie Promising Young Woman
A movie about a woman who wants to take revenge for her friend’s death during college.
Emerald Fennell’s debut feature film deals with sexual assault, male toxicity, grief, loss, and retaliation.
Cassey played by Carey Mulligan is a woman who’s traumatized by the events regarding her friend which even leads to her dropping out of med school and living a life that is away from all the life she had previously.
This is a hard-hitting take on the numerous sexual assault cases that go about without the accused being punished but instead, the victims get blamed and sometimes lose their lives in the process of pursuing justice for themselves.
There are a lot of eerie moments where Cassey scares the shit out of people and kinda makes the movie feel like a psychopathic killer on the loose picking out guys from the clubs each night and just showing them their place. The fear on the faces of those men and their reactions to slightly aversive actions taken by a woman shows their fake brevity and masculinity.
The movie takes a simple turn to become an interesting and cute rom-com with Cassey falling for her batchmate from med school Ryan played by Bo Burnham. But that moves the story forward into an intense third act where Cassey finally gets her revenge accomplished albeit in a rather strange and weird way.
