Hey there,
So, I recently watched Stanley Kubrick’s timeless classic, “Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb.” This movie is a goldmine for all of us who eat, sleep, and breathe storytelling and filmmaking. As an aspiring filmmaker, I am guilty of not delving into much of the old classics and I’m currently on the path of redemption. The only other Kubrick film that I’ve watched is The Shining.
First things first, what makes “Dr. Strangelove” such a wild ride?
Sharp and Snappy Dialogue
The script. Stanley Kubrick, along with Terry Southern and Peter George, brewed up a script that’s as sharp as a razor blade. The banter between characters is not just hilarious; it’s a clever way to dive into some deep social and political stuff. I couldn’t help but admire the sheer brilliance of their wordplay.
Characters That Pop
This movie boasts an ensemble cast, with Peter Sellers brilliantly and surprisingly for me, taking on three distinct roles. Every character in the film adds their flavour to the story, from the nutty General Jack D. Ripper (Sterling Hayden), General Buck Turgidson (George C Scott) to the mysterious Dr. Strangelove (Peter Sellers)himself. They strike your attention and disarm you…
