La vita è incerta

It’s been so long since I’ve written something and the exact reason for that might technically be, me being lazy and procrastinating like always. But of late, the part of me that is always curious and thinking about something or the other isn’t in the right frame of mind or the right space to encapsulate all the fast-paced and oxymoronic thoughts into the exact set of words that could make something worth reading.

This isn’t the first time something like this is happening and I don’t think that this is going to be the last time as well. I see a lot of people around my age struggling to figure out a lot of things in life and honestly, we don’t know where our lives are heading but as a tradition, since the stone ages we’ve succumbed to the societal pressures, never dared to ask the right questions which could have at least made a tiny difference to whatever that’s going on.

We don’t know what’s our purpose on this planet but I can surely say that most of what we do is not the purpose of our time here. We as humans have forgotten about living our life but constantly dream about living someone’s curated or scripted life.

Do we ever understand what happiness is? Is it something that you get when you get a job? Is it something that you get when you trust someone more than yourself? Is it something you feel when your kids get married and hand in a grandkid? I don’t understand the concept of happiness and when to let people know that I’m happy. Is it necessary to mention it to someone when I am not?

I, as a person, am restless when it comes to thoughts about the future, be it thinking about what to do and how to do things in a certain manner or what I will want to do in the next 15–20 years and what I would be doing when I get to 97. Is someone getting the chance to live for that long nowadays because we’ve already destroyed the chances of a safe and sustainable environment for the upcoming generations?

CLIMATE CHANGE IS REAL!!! Do your bit

Coming back to what we were talking about earlier, how on earth do we know what’s the right path for us to lead a life? Is the rat race still relevant supposing that we would all be gone in a few more decades? (Sorry for the climate change reference again, but seriously... Climate Change is REAL guys). Why is it that we were all programmed to follow the system where the knowledge you acquire in college is from the 20th century which is obsolete and the advancement of the technologies and the fields of studies that are taught have increased a thousandfold?

Every conversation I have with a peer of mine at least has a phase or a few hours of intense discussion about the things that have gone wrong in their lives or the things that we haven’t dared to pursue either due to financial or societal pressures or lack of support from the primary circle i.e., friends and family. We live at a time where we are more comfortable to be sufficed with regretting something than gaining confidence and courage to go after what we want.

I don’t blame my generation for having become so cowardly and not trying to take the risk and achieve what we want, because we were conditioned to be this way, to accept whatever life offers and go with the flow but never to swim against the stream and anyone that dares to do it and fails is forever branded as a loser in the minds of everyone living around in the neighbourhood.

But at the same time, I despise my contemporaries for leading life in such haphazardous ways that don’t instil confidence or provide aid to someone in distress. We’d rather Netflix and chill but not go out and do something for the society that we live in. We’d rather drink and dance with friends than spend time with family. We’d rather pull someone down than see someone get successful. We consider ourselves a progressive generation but we’re some of the most pessimistic people around right now.

I hope things turn around and people go after the concept of peace of mind instead of luxuries and money. I hope people stop bitching behind others and start caring for the ones around them. I hope people just empathize and give others a chance instead of jumping to conclusions. I hope we teach our younger generations to live happily with enough resources around than to live a rich life without people and serenity.

I only wish for a life that might be uncertain but never a commotion.
