The ending of a story is where you have the power to leave a lasting impression on your readers. It’s the culmination of the journey you’ve taken them on. Here’s how I approach crafting a compelling ending:

  1. Resolve the Main Conflict: The ending should provide a resolution to the primary conflict or challenge your characters face. Ensure that loose ends are tied up, and questions are answered.
  2. Character Arcs: Give your characters a sense of closure. Show how they’ve grown, changed, or come to terms with their inner conflicts. Let your readers see the evolution.
  3. Emotional Resonance: The ending is an opportunity to evoke strong emotions. Whether it’s happiness, sadness, relief, or surprise, aim to make your readers feel deeply connected to the story’s conclusion.
  4. Avoid Deus Ex Machina: A satisfying ending should come from the actions and choices of your characters, not from a convenient plot device. Readers appreciate an ending that’s earned.
  5. The Climax: Build up to a climactic moment, which often occurs just before the final resolution. This is the highest point of tension in the story and where the main conflict is at its peak.
  6. Leave Room for Interpretation: While it’s important to provide a resolution, consider leaving some elements open to interpretation…
